The GATE Parents Group has partnered with Mindful Schools to sponsor and bring their online courses, to SMUHSD for all parents, teachers and staff, free! - to you for the next year.  To learn more about mindfulness, the courses and how to sign up look here. 


Looking for more patience and less stress?  Summer is here and it might be a great time to learn a new skill MINDFULNESS.  Mindfulness is a moment-by-moment awareness of our thoughts, feelings, bodily sensations and environment.  Research finds that mindfulness decreases stress and anxiety, increases attention, improves interpersonal relationships, fosters compassion and strengthens emotional regulation.

The Hillsdale Effect Club is hosting a fundraiser at CHIPOTLE (1050 Park Place, near Whole Foods) on FRIDAY, April 28th, from 3PM - 10PM. If you are watching the Friday performance of Knight Moves, this is the perfect place for dinner!  All you have to do is show this flyer or just tell the cashier you are supporting the Hillsdale Effect, and we will receive a whopping 50% of the proceeds.

AUDITIONS for Intermediate/Advanced Drama classes will be held on Monday, May 8 in Hillsdale's Little Theater from 4 - 6pm.  We are now doing ONLINE REGISTRATION for all auditions. Please invite students to use the link to request a spot.

WHAT: AP & Final Exam care packages for high schoolers stressed about exams. Includes various candies, gum, pens, a unisex good luck bracelet, a worry doll, a balloon, and a personalized message!

HOW MUCH: $10 per package. Includes all of the above and a personal delivery to the student on the last day before exams.

WHEN: AP Exam packages must be ordered by FRIDAY, APRIL 21st. Finals packages must be ordered by FRIDAY, MAY 12th.

HOW TO ORDER: To order online, visit our website at hhseffect.wixsite.com/hhseffect and click the “Donate” tab at the top of the page. Click the PayPal button and make a $10 donation. In the optional note section, please specify your student’s FULL NAME, GRADE LEVEL, and MESSAGE YOU WOULD LIKE DELIVERED. Alternatively, we will have a payment box in the Hillsdale main office, where you can drop off your $10 payment and a note specifying the student’s full name, grade, and your message.

Parent Education Series/PTSO evening event

 Wednesday, May 3rd, 7:00 – 8:30p.m. located in the HHS Library

The evening will include a screening of Escalation, a film created by the One Love Foundation (http://www.joinonelove.org/  This evening is in support of educating our families and community about relationship violence, generating ideas for supporting healthier relationships and creating a more respectful culture.

We hope you can join us for this year's third annual Hillsdale High School Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony. The event will be held at Hillsdale High School on Friday, May 5th.


•     4:00 - 5:00 PM     Student led Campus tours

•     5:00 - 6:00 PM     Reception with Hors D'oeuvres and Beverages in Hillsdale Theater Foyer

•     6:00 - 7:15 PM     Induction Ceremony in Hillsdale's new Theater (all three events are free of charge with registration requested)

•     7:30 - 9:30 PM   HOF Banquet with no host bar at The Van's Restaurant (price for Banquet: $55/person - limited to first 120 registrants)


You will find photos and biographies of this year's inductees and may register for the event by going to the Hillsdale High School Alumni Association website (www.hillsdalehsalumni.org).  Biographies, Pictures, and Videos of the 2015 and 2016 Hall of Fame events are also available for viewing on the website.

Hillsdale High School in San Mateo is one of only 20 schools from across the country to receive recognition as a "School of Opportunity," a coveted national designation honoring excellent public high schools that engage in practices that build on students' strengths and create supported learning opportunities for all students.

The National Education Policy Center (NEPC), based at the University of Colorado Boulder, sponsors the Schools of Opportunity project, which identifies excellent public high schools that actively strive to close opportunity gaps - the differences in opportunities and resources that drive the well-known achievement gaps.
