Congratulations to the Hillsdale Effect

The Hillsdale Effect, our unique Interact Club which focuses on addressing issues of poverty, was honored at the September 5th San Mateo City Council meeting for its work in providing microloans to impoverished women in Guatemala. The Guatemalan Consul General was in attendance and hand-delivered certificates of recognition to over 20 students and then met and talked with them after the ceremony. This was part of a celebration of the friendship between Guatemala, Mexico and the City of San Mateo. The Hillsdale Effect, entering it's 10th year now, has raised over $60,000 for microloans to help women in Guatemala start or grow small businesses. Teachers Sarah Press and Greg Lance advise the club, which is about to begin it's annual "Penny Wars" fundraising campaign for microloans.

Those interested in learning more about the club and how you can help are encouraged to visit their student-designed website: http://hhseffect.wixsite.com/hhseffect

Congratulations to the HHS Robotics Team!

The Hillsdale Robotics club attended GCER, the Global Conference on Educational Robotics this year, scoring 5th place worldwide out of the 65 teams competing, with around 350 teams registered worldwide. The Hillsdale Robotics club is an after school club that aspires to teach creativity and free thinking. Our activities include teaching mechanics and coding to those interested and then organizing a novice competition to allow our members to utilize the skills they have learned. No previous experience is needed to partake in the club.
